Privacy Policy

SparkPrep (“we”, “us”, or “our”) develops educational preparation software for electrical trade certification. This Privacy Policy describes how personal information is collected, used, and protected when you use the SparkPrep (309A and 442A Exam Prep) mobile application and website.

1. Information We Collect

A. Account & Authentication Information

When you create an account or sign in via email or Google Sign-In:

• Unique User Identifier: A persistent Supabase user ID (UUID) used to associate your study records and purchase entitlements across sessions.
• Email Address: Your email address for account authentication, password recovery, and essential transactional notices.
• Profile Information: Optional display name and profile picture provided by your Google account for in-app personalization.

B. Financial & Purchase Information

When you purchase or upgrade access (e.g., Study or Exam Ready tier):

• Transaction Details: Purchased product identifier, transaction timestamp, store order ID (e.g., Google Play GPA order number), and entitlement status.
• Payment Instruments: Purchases in the Android app are handled directly by Google Play Billing. Purchases on our website are handled by RevenueCat's checkout, with card payments processed by Stripe. We never collect, process, or store credit card, debit card, or financial institution account numbers.
• Receipt Email: For website purchases, the email address used at checkout is shared with RevenueCat and Stripe to process the payment and send your receipt.

C. App Interactions & Study Activity

• Quiz Answers & Scores: Selected answers, completion timestamps, and score percentages are recorded to build your personal progress dashboard and identify weak knowledge areas.
• Flagged Questions: Questions you flag or mark for review are synchronized so you can drill difficult topics.

D. How You Found SparkPrep

• Referral Tag: If you arrive through a link that carries a short tag (for example, from a Reddit post or a partner site), your browser or device stores that tag. When you create an account, it is saved with your account, along with the date it was first seen, so we can see which channels bring new students. If you use the Android app without such a link, the tag simply records “Android app.” The tag does not identify you or track you on other websites. We also count how many times each tagged link is opened (only the tag and a daily total; nothing about who opened it).
• “How did you hear about us?” answer: After a purchase, you may choose an answer from a short list (such as a search engine, a friend or a college). This question is optional and can be skipped.
• We use this information only in total counts, to decide where to share SparkPrep. It is never sold or used for advertising.

E. College Access Codes and Instructors

• Access codes: If your college gives you an access code, we record which code your account used and when, so the college’s seats can be counted and a code can only be used once. The college can be told which of its codes have been used, and how many.
• Sharing your progress with your instructors: Some colleges’ codes include an instructor view. Before such a code is used, you are asked to agree. If you agree, the instructors of that college course can see your name, email address and your SparkPrep progress from the day you used the code: how many questions you have answered and when, your scores by exam section, and your practice exam results. Sharing lasts as long as the access from that code does, and stops when it ends. If you don’t agree, the code is not used. Instructors see only the students who used a code from their own course.
• To stop sharing, contact us at privacy@sparkprep.ca or ask your college; the code’s access then ends. Deleting your account (section 4) also ends it.

F. Answering by Voice (optional)

• If you turn on “Answer by voice” in Settings, SparkPrep uses your microphone while you answer a quiz or flashcard question.
• Your phone’s or browser’s built-in speech service turns what you say into text. On Android this is usually Google’s speech service; in Chrome it is Google’s, and in Microsoft Edge it is Microsoft’s. That service may process your voice on its own servers, under its own privacy policy.
• SparkPrep receives only the resulting text, uses it on your device to pick your answer or command, and does not record, store or send your voice or that text to our servers.
• The setting is off unless you turn it on. You can turn it off in Settings, or remove SparkPrep’s microphone permission in your phone’s settings, at any time.

G. Practice Exam Certificates

• When you pass a full practice exam, you can ask for a certificate. You choose the name printed on it. We keep that name, the exam (309A or 442A), the date you passed, a certificate ID, and when it was emailed. Your score is not on the certificate.
• The certificate is emailed to your account’s email address through our email provider, Resend. The email includes a link to add the certificate to your LinkedIn profile; LinkedIn receives the certificate’s details only if you use that link.
• Each certificate has a public check page (sparkprep.ca/verify/…) showing the name on it, the exam and the date passed, so others (for example an employer) can confirm it. You can turn that page off at any time in Settings. Deleting your account deletes your certificates.

2. Third-Party Service Providers

We do not sell, rent, or monetize your personal data. We utilize trusted third-party service providers solely to fulfill operational services necessary to run the application:

3. Data Security & Retention

• Encryption in Transit: All data transmitted between your device, Supabase, RevenueCat, Stripe, and Google servers is encrypted using modern Transport Layer Security (TLS/HTTPS).
• Data Retention: Account data and study history are stored for the lifetime of your account. Entitlement records are retained for transaction auditing and customer support.

4. Your Rights: Deletion & Access

You have full ownership and control over your information:

• In-App Account Deletion: You can permanently delete your account, answers, and study history at any time from within the app: navigate to Settings → Account → Delete Account. All user records will be deleted immediately from our database.
• Email Request: You may also request deletion or a copy of your stored data by contacting us at privacy@sparkprep.ca.

5. Children’s Privacy

SparkPrep is an occupational licensing study tool designed for adult trade apprentices and journeypersons. The app does not knowingly solicit or collect information from children under the age of 13.
